The Bhairav light commando battalion and the Universal Rocket Launcher System (URLS) “Suryastra” were showcased during the 77th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path.
The parade featured new combat formations and indigenous weapon systems.
Bhairav Light Commando Battalion
The Bhairav light commando battalion was raised in October 2025 and made its first public appearance during the parade.
The 4 Bhairav Battalion of the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment was created to bridge the operational gap between conventional infantry units and special forces.
The battalion is designed for high-intensity missions and agile combat operations in varied terrain.
Universal Rocket Launcher System “Suryastra”
The Universal Rocket Launcher System (URLS) “Suryastra” was displayed for the first time at the parade.
It is described as India’s first universal multi-calibre long-range rocket launcher.
The system is designed to deliver surface-to-surface strikes at ranges of 150 kilometres and 300 kilometres.
The launcher can integrate multiple rocket and missile variants on a single platform.
Other Military Elements at the Parade
A mixed scouts contingent appeared at the parade wearing heavy thermal combat gear.
The contingent was led by Lieutenant Amit Choudhary of the 2 Arunachal Scouts.
The mounted contingent of the 61 Cavalry appeared in battle gear instead of ceremonial attire.
Army assets and indigenous platforms advanced in phased battle array formations during the parade.
