There are also stories of individuals whose courage stood tall even when the odds were overwhelming. <strong>Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon<\/strong> belongs firmly to the latter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He remains the <strong>only Indian Air Force officer to be awarded the Param Vir Chakra<\/strong>, India\u2019s highest gallantry award, for actions in an air combat role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early Life and the Call to Fly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon was born in Punjab in 1943. From an early age, he showed a keen interest in flying and military life.
